Kolkata: Hospitals are currently using a system of triage for selecting which patients to treat as a result of the hospital's admission system. By prioritizing treatments according to the severity of a patient's condition or chances of recovery without treatment, triaging aims to optimise scarce resources during emergencies and disasters. There has been a growing global agreement on triage during the current pandemic to limit strain on resources.
Almost 4,000 Covid-positive patients are added to Kolkata's hospitals every day, and hospitals cannot house additional patients after adding new ones, doctors say.
