A petition to transfer the Sidhu Moose Wala murder case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was filed in the Supreme Court on Saturday, June 4. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader from Punjab, Jagjit Singh Milkha, filed the plea in the top court.
In his petition, he has demanded that the Sidhu Moose Wala murder case be transferred to the CBI.
The petition was filed by Supreme Court advocates Sarthak Chaturvedi, Namit Saxena and Shubham Jaiswal. The plea states that there is an atmosphere of fear in Punjab, and the apex court should take cognisance of the matter. Further, the plea said that the fundamental rights of the people are being violated and the safety of the common man is in danger. Sidhu Moose Wala was hit by 19 bullets, died within 15 minutes, says autopsy report. In his public interest litigation, Milkha has raised questions against the Punjab government over the murder of Siddu Moose Wala. He pointed out that a day before Moose Wala's killing, the singer-politician's security was removed and then it was publicised. The plea claimed that the murder had strings attached to an international gang, so it should be investigated by a central probe agency such as the CBI.
Drugs and gun culture have become very common in Punjab. Khalistani supporters are spreading their feet in a big way in Punjab, so national security should be kept in mind and a CBI investigation should be done into the whole matter.
On May 29, unidentified gunmen ambushed Moose Wala in Jawarharke village in Mansa and opened fire at the car he was travelling in. At least three weapons, including an AN-94 assault rifle, were used and thirty empty bullet casings were recovered from the site. The killing took place mere days after the singer-politician's security cover was revoked by the Punjab government. Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar, a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility for Moose Wala's murder.
