Political Vandalism in South Kolkata: BJP Alleges "Cowardice" as Wall Writings Erased in Behala

Kolkata: Tensions have flared in the South Kolkata district following allegations by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) is engaging in "political vandalism" to suppress opposition voices.
The controversy centers on the Behala Purba Assembly constituency, specifically within Ward 122. Local BJP leadership has reported that wall writings in Booth numbers 156 and 157 were systematically erased two days ago. According to the allegations, at least 10 wall writings—a crucial medium for political campaigning in West Bengal—were wiped out in what the party has termed a "pre-planned" act.
Accusations of Cowardice
In a strong statement issued regarding the incident, the local BJP unit condemned the act as a display of "cowardice" by the Trinamool Congress. The statement emphasized that in a democratic nation, such attempts to silence the opposition are both shameful and condemnable.
"The Trinamool Congress has shown its fear by erasing our campaign materials," the statement read. "This is a desperate attempt to stifle the democratic voice of the opposition."
"Cannot Erase Us from Hearts"
Despite the physical removal of the campaign graffiti, the BJP has issued a defiant message, asserting that administrative muscle cannot dismantle the party's ideological base.
"We want to make it clear: by wiping off wall writings, you cannot wipe the BJP out of the people's minds," the statement continued. "You cannot remove BJP's ideology from the hearts of the citizens. The support and love of the people remain our greatest strength."
A Warning Against "Politics of Terror"
The communication concluded with a direct challenge to the state leadership, referring to the Chief Minister as "Mananiya" (Honorable). The BJP warned that every act of injustice would be answered by the public—not through violence, but through the democratic process.
"The people will give a fitting reply to every injustice on the streets and through the ballot box," the party declared. "We will not allow this politics of terror to continue on the soil of West Bengal for much longer."
