BJP Launches Massive "Poriborton Yatra" Across West Bengal Ahead of 2026 Assembly Polls

KOLKATA – With the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections on the horizon, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially sounded the battle cry by launching its ambitious "Poriborton Yatra" (March for Change). The campaign, designed to galvanize grassroots support, was unveiled during a high-profile event in Kolkata on Friday, featuring a new theme song and a detailed campaign booklet.

A Statewide Surge for Change

The "Poriborton Yatra" is set to be one of the most significant political mobilizations in the state’s recent history. Key figures of the Bengal BJP unit, including State President Samik Bhattacharya, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, and Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar, led the launch, emphasizing a vision to "restore the lost glory" of West Bengal.

The campaign strategy is massive in scale:

Nine Simultaneous Marches: The yatras will kick off from nine distinct locations across the state, including Cooch Behar, Krishnanagar, and Garbeta.

Massive Reach: The marches are expected to cover over 5,000 kilometers, touching every single Assembly constituency in the state.

Public Engagement: The BJP has planned 60 large-scale public meetings and more than 300 smaller street-corner gatherings to connect directly with voters.

"A Living Fossil": BJP Sharpens Attack on TMC

During the launch, State President Samik Bhattacharya did not mince words, describing the current Trinamool Congress (TMC) administration as a "living fossil" and alleging a total collapse of governance.

Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar added that the yatra would see participation from top national leadership, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President Nitin Nabin. The party intends to highlight issues ranging from corruption to industrial stagnation, positioning the BJP as the only viable alternative for "Asol Poriborton" (Real Change).

"This is not just a political march; it is a movement to connect with every section of society and liberate Bengal from the current atmosphere of fear," said a senior party leader during the briefing.

The Grand Culmination

The month-long campaign is scheduled to conclude with a show of strength at Kolkata’s iconic Brigade Parade Grounds. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address the final rally, marking the climax of the party's pre-poll outreach.

As the state gears up for a high-stakes electoral battle, the "Poriborton Yatra" serves as a clear signal that the BJP is prepared to leave no stone unturned in its quest to challenge Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s decade-plus hold on power.
