Kolkata might experience light rain as a low pressure over northwest Bay of Bengal could move across South Bengal including Kolkata. The showers, however, are not likely to be severe since the pressure will gradually move towards Odisha. "We expect light to moderate rain in Kolkata over the next 48 hours. While Kolkata and its surroundings may receive more rain on Tuesday, the showers could be more persistent and slightly heavier in the coastal areas on Wednesday," said Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) director GK Das. Kolkata has seen a rather dry monsoon this year so far, with the city experiencing a rain deficit in June, July and August. While Kolkata had a 20% deficit last month, it was a sharp 41% in July and 46% between June 1 and July 16. Lack of low-pressure areas contributed to the rain deficit, said reports.
