Amid heightened tension and allegations of clashes between student groups, voting for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections began on Friday morning.
Polling started at 8:30 a.m. and is scheduled to continue until 7:30 p.m., with vote counting set to begin on Saturday morning. During polling, reports emerged of clashes between supporters of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) at several locations, including North Campus, Law Centre and Kirori Mal College. Against this backdrop of allegations and counter-allegations, the Delhi High Court on Friday directed that no victory procession be held after the election results are declared.
The court’s direction came on the very day of polling, as authorities sought to prevent any escalation of tensions following the announcement of the results.
With counting scheduled to begin on Saturday, attention now turns to the outcome of one of Delhi University’s most closely watched student elections.
